In the middle of the mountain wilderness of the Alps, a glowing meteorite strikes a glacier and brings a Neanderthal boy frozen in ice back to life. This boy, Bataa, meets Sophie, a girl who has run away from a vacation cabin in the mountains. They stay on it to Koblenz and have to stay the night. The rest of the film revolves around Kempenich and his wife as they alternately show guilt about their own behaviour and outrage as they learn what their spouse might have done.
